Packed full of vitamins, antioxidants, and fibre, sweetcorn can be enjoyed in so many ways, whether eaten fresh, cooked, popped into popcorn, preserved, or even ground into flour. For many, smothered in butter or within a clam chowder soup is a must. In the world of artistry, the plant offers a sumptuous unravelling of colour and form as husks are pulled away to reveal buttery-yellow ears of corn in neat rows of kernels. Whilst it has proved challenging to outline each kernel with liquid clay slip, the result was worth the effort. Kerry’s soft green leaves curl under the rim of the vase like musical notes against a crisp wash of blue and green, as keyboards of colour drip down from one kernel to another.

What is a Moorcroft second? All our art pottery is closely inspected before it leaves the Moorcroft factory and the selection process is as rigorous as any in the world. As a result, not all pieces emerge unblemished in their quality assessment. The fault or faults may be in the finish of a piece, whether it be a tiny tubeline miss, an incorrectly painted petal, or a small glaze run. Seconds are not ‘red-dotted’, all of them are far too good for that, and each seconds piece has a charm and individuality of its own. Any fault is not structural and the piece can still be used for the purpose it was made.
