Seconds Hedgerow Medley 10/2 Vase

Designer Kerry Goodwin has been hard at work creating a diminutive collection of miniature vases, each featuring seasonal flowers, one for each month of the year. Her tenth piece is Hedgerow Medley featuring blackthorn, blackberries and hawthorn.  For centuries, hawthorn and blackthorn have been key plants in our hedgerows, helping to make fields stock-proof, they have become famous for other reasons as the ‘sloes’ or berries of blackthorn are popular in gin, wine and jam making. Although bitter to our taste, birds happily feast on the fruit in the autumn.  Each month a new Miniature of the Month will be launched so that, during the year, you can build up your own miniature collection of seasonal florals.

What is a Moorcroft second? All our art pottery is closely inspected before it leaves the Moorcroft factory and the selection process is as rigorous as any in the world. As a result, not all pieces emerge unblemished in their quality assessment. The fault or faults may be in the finish of a piece, whether it be a tiny tubeline miss, an incorrectly painted petal, or a small glaze run. Seconds are not ‘red-dotted’, all of them are far too good for that, and each seconds piece has a charm and individuality of its own. Any fault is not structural and the piece can still be used for the purpose it was made.
