Tennessee Mockingbird 117/7 Vase

Her family’s return from their epic Tennessee tour brought with it clear memories of what seemed to its members more akin to a colourful dream than a holiday. Nicola’s own recollections were spinning round her, raucous mockingbird with its grey body shading away into a whitish grey underside, but it was its wings that were the most memorable to its creator. Dark grey feathers carry strong white lines and if the bird’s song failed to demand instant attention, its white wing stripes certainly would. Passion flowers and their fruit are familiar in Moorcroft art. All in all, it is the combination of shape and colour which makes the design work. With the noise, the orange and grey colour theme and the shape of the vase itself, there is design symmetry, the key to something successful and intelligent, and which, all at one and the same time, deliver, the state flower and the state bird of Tennessee itself.
