Seconds Arts and Crafts For All Seasons - Spring PLQ11 Plaque

Numbered Edition
Plaque

John Henry Dearle (1859–1932) began his 54 years of employment with Morris & Co working in the firm's Oxford Street shop. William Morris took Dearle under his wing and trained him to work as his tapestry assistant where he created 30 patterns for wallpaper and 40 for textiles, which included the famous Golden Lily, Seaweed, Compton, Sweet Briar, Anemone, Artichoke, and Daffodil designs.

Spring steps forward in the dark ground of Compton’s Midnight tapestry to create a vision of Dearle’s other daffodils designs. Golden, sprightly daffodils toss their heads and dance with foliage of minty, blue-green tinged with raspberry and doused in honey-coloured hues, as they weave and curl like tails of a comet. To make her design utterly unique, Nicola uses contrasting sprigs of tiny forget-me-knots, like blue stars in a galaxy, the largest and hottest stars of them all, to set Spring ablaze.

What is a Moorcroft second?
All our art pottery is closely inspected before it leaves the Moorcroft factory and the selection process is as rigorous as any in the world. As a result, not all pieces emerge unblemished in their quality assessment. The fault or faults may be in the finish of a piece, whether it be a tiny tubeline miss, an incorrectly painted petal, or a small glaze run. Seconds are not ‘red-dotted’, all of them are far too good for that, and each seconds piece has a charm and individuality of its own. Any fault is not structural and the piece can still be used for the purpose it was made.

The 'Was' price shown is the Best Quality RRP of this design and shape.
