The Carpet Garden 576/15 Vase

Vicky was inspired to create a colourful design duo when she saw a beautiful show garden at the 2001 RHS Chelsea Flower Show and discovered that the idea had come from a sketch drawn by King Charles himself (at that time then The Prince of Wales) and submitted to the Royal Horticultural Society. The garden was a triumph drawing huge crowds and winning both a coveted Silver-Gilt medal from the RHS and Vicky’s admiration.

The original sketch was based on a Turkish carpet in one of the rooms of His Royal Highness’ private residence - Highgrove House and Gardens in Gloucestershire. “After gazing for many years at the patterns and colours of one of the small Turkish carpets in my room at Highgrove, I couldn’t help feeling what fun it would be to use those patterns and colours to create a theme for a garden. The challenge would be to see if you could almost create the effect of being within the carpet.” – King Charles

This story took Vicky on a journey of discovery as she looked further into the detailed and complex rug designs of Anatolia - a rich and vibrant part of the world. Vicky wanted her designs to focus mainly on plant life and so she catalogued the flowers and plants see had seen in the Chelsea Flower Show garden and discovered whether they were repeated in the Highgrove carpet. There were many crossovers and these formed the basis of her design created to celebrate her 25th anniversary at Moorcroft.

Her prestige vase features a repeating band of dark green cypress trees, nigella, hyacinths, tulips and carnations, all closely interwoven to form a densely-packed ‘carpet’ of her very own. Moorcroft’s extensive colour palette comes into play with stylised flowers in blue, mauve, orange and red framed by geometric patterns in shades of blue or bright yellow. The overall effect is a vibrant and complex design that tests both Moorcroft’s most skilled tubeliners and painters alike.
