Ille and Maye 80/12 Vase
Part of the Women of the Glasgow Style Collection
This collection draws inspiration from the women of the Glasgow Style movement and the artistic world of the Mackintosh era. Featuring designs created by, inspired by, or depicting women connected to this influential artistic period, the collection celebrates the creativity, symbolism and decorative beauty that defined turn-of-the-century Glasgow.
Ille and Maye
Inspired by the work of Glasgow Girls artist Jessie M. King, a contemporary of Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh, Ille and Maye explores the romantic symbolism and decorative beauty associated with the Glasgow Style movement.
Originally designed as a bookplate for Charles D. Edwards, the artwork bears the inscription: “That Man’s Unwyse Wille Searche for Ille and Maye Prevent it Setting Stille.” Nicola Slaney reimagines the dreamlike scene in ceramic form, where stylised female figures, flowing foliage and still waters evoke the poetry and imagination of the era.
