Nicola’s inspiration is clothed in one word - ‘Simplicity’. Her bright yellow buttercups and pure white daisies with their soft yellow centres bound together in leafy bonds of eternal love and curling stems, sing a song for those with imagination - the same song that was written down by H. Fleetwood Sheppard in 1891, just six years before the first pots bearing the Moorcroft name made their inaugural appearance in 1897. Those words have been repeated and the tune hummed thousands of times since then:-
As I was going to Strawberry Fair,
Singing, singing, Butter-cups and Daisies
I met a maiden taking her ware
Her eyes were blue and golden her hair
As she went on to Strawberry Fair.
Everyone remembers buttercups and daisies because of their simplicity and that is the secret on which Nicola stumbled. Two beautiful flowers clung to an ancient tune and a fine piece of ceramic art from Moorcroft was born as a result.
