White Water Lily 119/7 Vase

Geometric lilies, leaves and buds are arranged in a precise, almost rhythmic symmetry, their crisp white forms standing boldly against deep blues and turquoise. The familiar water lily has been stripped back to its most distinctive shapes, creating a design with an almost architectural quality. The result feels surprisingly modern despite its traditional subject matter.

Nicola Slaney’s confident use of colour brings the design to life, combining rich blues, cool turquoise and white to create a palette that feels both fresh and unmistakably Moorcroft. Strong tubelined outlines emphasise the geometric forms, while the richly glazed surface brings depth and movement to the pattern.

 

Across the five shapes, the composition changes subtly with each form. Flowers and foliage stretch vertically across the taller vases, while the broader shapes allow the geometric pattern to develop a stronger rhythm around the body of the vessel. Each piece therefore has its own character, rather than simply repeating the same design at different scales.

The result is a contemporary interpretation of a much-loved botanical subject, combining precise geometry with the hand-applied craftsmanship that lies at the heart of Moorcroft art pottery.
