Each year on 29th August, Potteries Bottle Oven Day celebrates the remarkable bottle ovens that once dominated the skyline of Stoke-on-Trent and became enduring symbols of the city’s world-famous pottery industry.

At the industry’s height, more than 4,000 bottle ovens were in use across the Potteries. Today, just 47 survive, including Moorcroft’s own Grade II listed bottle oven, built in 1919 and standing as a proud reminder of generations of craftsmanship.

To mark Potteries Bottle Oven Day 2026, designer Nicola Slaney presents Sandbach Road, a new design inspired by Moorcroft’s historic home. At its heart, an imposing bottle kiln rises above the works, recalling a time when the skyline was filled with tall chimneys and swirling smoke.

Surrounded by a stylised landscape of rolling fields and graceful trees, Sandbach Road brings together industrial architecture, natural beauty and decorative artistry. The result is a vibrant celebration of Stoke-on-Trent’s pottery heritage and a fitting tribute to the place Moorcroft has proudly called home since 1913.
