Turk's Cap Lily PLQ3 Plaque

Numbered Edition
Plaque

Art can call through the years, through centuries, even through millennia, though its voice can become fainter and more obscure. Likewise, the identity of the artist can fade with time and can only be reincarnated through the research, determination and knowledge of very special people indeed. The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) found an incredibly beautiful pink lily tucked away in a modest collection of forty-five original watercolours on vellum in an album entitled ‘Fiori Bottan’. Hidden inside this more than 300-year-old treasure trove was a selection of cultivated flowers including daffodils, anemones, irises, tulips and some delightful pink lilies. The name of the artist has long since faded into oblivion, but their work lives on.

The RHS released the image of their precious lilium martagon watercolour to Moorcroft designer, Nicola Slaney, and it was reincarnated as the Turk’s Cap Lily plaque, the vernacular name for the plant. Three hundred years ago, an unknown artist called out and their voice was heard and passed on to Moorcroft to create an object to be loved and cherished for centuries to come. Dreams never die.
