Twenty years have passed since this shape appeared as an annual club design, though on the smaller 15cms high vase, and what is more, nor has another design since Oberon (1993) aroused William Shakespeare’s King of the Fairies from his flowery bed. Enchantingly, in Paul’s King’s Choice the honeysuckle flowerhead itself holds centre stage in vivid-ruby red stigmas fit for a king’s crown. The sweet-scented honeysuckle trails and entwists around the forest tree trunks, home to the fairies in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. For 2023, carmine-red berries entwined with leaves straddle the side of the vase, almost as if they are providing a curtain into another ethereal world.
Fairies, be gone, and be all ways away.
So doth the woodbine the sweet honeysuckle
