Purple Sandpiper 3/2 Vase

The purple sandpiper is a wading bird with a downcurved beak and short legs. A couple of pairs nest in Scotland and the breeding areas are kept secret to protect the birds from egg thieves and disturbance. They are a winter visitor to the rocky coasts of Orkney, Shetland, the east of Scotland and northern England, though they are scarce south of Yorkshire, other than in Cornwall and Devon.
