Hera's Beauty 84/12 Vase

Always the eternal symbol of peace and tranquillity, the pure calla lily consists of a rigid and vertical flower stalk which ends in a flared funnel that hides a golden-coloured spadix. The derivative of the word ‘calla’ is the Greek word for beauty, ‘calla’. The flowers have an interesting mythological history. Calla lilies are said to come from the ancient god Hera, the wife of Zeus. In the story, Zeus brought his son Hercules to feed from his wife while she was sleeping. He wanted his son to have the strength of the gods. Hera awoke and pushed the baby away from her. Drops of milk flew across the sky creating the milky way and everywhere they landed on earth, calla lilies bloomed. Focussing entirely on the incredible organic shapes of the leaves and flowers alone, Vicky has created a stunning tribute to this revered flower.
