Margot Holmes 159/18 Vase

Numbered Edition
Vase

A dramatic iris relative from southern Africa that produces spires of deep violet, Artistea Capitate, has her blooms peppered around windows holding the iris Margot Holmes. Blooms of unearthly scarlet dazzle as standards and falls swirl like ruffled cotton over a blast of yellow Bobarati as pure-white crocuses curl and coil up from the base of the vase against a midnight ground. Circling under the ring of the vase, iris Margot Holmes blooms are raised up against an ivory body to reveal the unparalleled beauty of the glaze colour. This particular iris has special meaning for the British Iris Society, as it was the first to be awarded the prestigious Dykes Medal in 1927, when it was raised by Amos Perry, one of the most celebrated hybridisers of Beardless hybrid irises.
