Italian Iris 4/5 Vase

Moorcroft designer, Nicola Slaney, had been given the enviable task of converting the work of an artist who lived more than 300 years ago into a contemporary art form. The original irises had been painted by an unknown Italian artist whose purpose and identity remain unknown. The original iris flowers sit with military precision at the end of a straight stem balanced by two green leaves and it is the flowers that are there to command our attention.

Presented with a brand-new Moorcroft shape, Nicola decided her irises would come in shades of blue, orange yellow as they swirled around the gracious curves of a hitherto unknown shape. This time, the Italian artist and the Moorcroft designer had met halfway in colours and technique and although their lives are 300 years apart, the result is a most mesmerising vase.
