Yellow Shrine CL1 Clock

Clock

Hypericum or Rose of Sharon as it is more commonly known is a semi evergreen woody shrub which flowers during July, August and September. Generally speaking virtually all are yellow flowered and favour a sunny position with reasonable drainage and a moisture retentive soil. They sit comfortably within mixed borders and are easy to grow and have a lengthy flowering period. Gradually garden centres are beginning to stock more varieties as this plant group really does deserve to be seen and used more often.

Rachel has designed three pieces as a small clock, tray and vase based upon a compact hybrid Hypericum called Hypericum x moserianum. This first rate small shrub, usually not more than 50cm high, makes an excellent ground cover plant with arching stems. Flowers, 5-6cm across have conspicuous reddish anthers borne from July to October and these are clearly depicted. They help lift the design together with the typical pinkish red stems and overall golden yellow flowers and their repetition creates a subtle, very pleasing composition. Importantly it turns full circle from Rachel’s original design when she was a very new member of the Moorcroft team, before the present Design Studio was born in 1997.
