Seconds Rainbow Lake 117/7 Vase

Limited Edition
Vase

Iris means rainbow in Greek and was the name of the Greek goddess of the rainbow. For the Greeks, a rainbow’s arc was most often seen spanning the distance between cloud and sea, and so the goddess was believed to replenish the rain-clouds with water from the sea.

Moorcroft has a long and illustrious history when it comes to creating Iris designs, with the earliest examples created by our founder, William Moorcroft in 1899. Today in Nicola’s design has soft mauve tinted blue irises framing her landscape scene. Nicola cleverly draws your eye through her design to the distant hills, framed through the branches of trees, above which a colourful rainbow brightens the sky. Here rainbows and irises come together, each bringing a kaleidoscope of colour into our lives.

This year more than ever before, rainbows have played such a prominent role in our lives, becoming a symbol of hope, courage and determination in the face of adversity around the globe. Moorcroft has played its own small part in bringing colour into our lives, when life looked bleak and we can only hope that more art pottery rainbows will come our way in years to come. As for irises, may they forever bloom at Moorcroft in all their glory.
