There is a National Collection of Cornus kousa trees at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens and they are among the most beautiful of ornamental trees, known for their numerous flowers with conspicuous white bracts covering their spreading branches in June. Strawberry like fruits follow and autumn colour is often richly coloured.
Rachel features a Cornus which has leaves with wavy, creamy white margins, strawberry like fruits followed by attractive autumn colour. An off-centre white Peony draws the eye with saucer shaped flowers and golden stamens with the purple Hellebore just above. Different flower shapes, colours and sizes are set against a strong dark background all combine creating a lovely floral cascade.
What is a Moorcroft second? All our art pottery is closely inspected before it leaves the Moorcroft factory and the selection process is as rigorous as any in the world. As a result, not all pieces emerge unblemished in their quality assessment. The fault or faults may be in the finish of a piece, whether it be a tiny tubeline miss, an incorrectly painted petal, or a small glaze run. Seconds are not ‘red-dotted’, all of them are far too good for that, and each seconds piece has a charm and individuality of its own. Any fault is not structural and the piece can still be used for the purpose it was made.
