Founded in 1904 as the only gallery in the UK devoted to a single artist, Watts Gallery and Artists' Village offers a unique insight into the life and work of G F Watts and his wife, the designer and artist Mary Watts. The Artists' Village carries on the Wattses' legacy of 'Art for All' with its historic and contemporary galleries, working Artist in Residence and Conservation Studios and an extensive Learning programme.

First opening its doors to the public in 1904, Watts Gallery is a purpose-built art gallery created to display the works of the great Victorian artist G F Watts. After a major restoration project completed in 2011, visitors can once again experience stunning artworks whilst wandering through the atmospheric historic galleries. Landscape, art and remembrance are beautifully blended together in the Watts Chapel and the couple's home, Limnerslease can be explored with its impressive Arts and Crafts interior.

In 2017 the world celebrates the bicentennial of George Watts’s birth, and Moorcroft will join in the 200-year celebrations over two days at Watts Gallery and Artists’ Village.

The event will be taking place in the Clore Learning Studio where a free lecture on Moorcroft and the Arts and Crafts Movement will take place twice a day, given by antiques expert Eric Knowles.

Moorcroft designer, Vicky Lovatt, will be demonstrating how she creates a design, seeks inspiration and her techniques for drawing onto a raw clay vase. Vicky will also be introducing four exclusive designs that she has created to celebrate our return to Watts Gallery. The lead piece in the collection is Helios, inspired by G F Watts’s famous equestrian sculpture, 'Physical Energy' and the bust sculpture of Clytie. When you visit Watts you will be able to see for yourself the inspiration for the collection.

A full array of 2017 Moorcroft catalogue designs will be on display, together with unusual designer trials, watercolours and other items of interest. The Moorcroft Club will be showcasing the new Club vase for the year, 'Bobbing Boats'; the renewal miniature bowl 'Tiny Trees'; Star Award designs and plenty of further exclusive Club offerings.

The event will be held from 11am to 5pm each day. However, the Tea Shop and Visitor Centre opens at 10.30am if you wish to arrive earlier. Parking is free of charge.
