Whitby Abbey 161/11 Vase

Limited Edition

Situated on the east coast of Yorkshire at the mouth of the River Esk, Whitby has a rich heritage as well as being home to the ruins of Whitby Abbey where Caedmon, the earliest English poet, lived. On a recent visit to the characterful fishing port, designer, Kerry took inspiration from the picturesque Abbey which overlooks the multi-coloured and charming harbour town. Perched high on a cliff, it's easy to see why the haunting remains of Whitby Abbey were inspiration for Bram Stoker's gothic tale of 'Dracula'. Kerry’s design features the crumbling brickwork and stone boulders, still fighting the pull of gravity. Centuries of weather and war have taken their toll - parts of the abbey church have collapsed during storms, and its west front was hit by German naval shelling in 1914. Soft, fluffy clouds bring with them a trace of salty sea air while pools of blue water trickle through crags and hillocks.
